Joya Johnson

Camp Director

Joya Johnson has been dancing for 22 years with over 10 years of teaching and choreography experience. A native of Atlanta, Joya began her formal dance training at Rhythm Dance Center. As a young dancer, she was featured in Dance Spirit Magazine as Rising Star Award winner. She attended numerous summer intensive institutions including the Juilliard School, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Atlanta Ballet and Micadanses in Paris, France. Joya later moved to NYC to earn her BFA from the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University dance program. Throughout her professional career, Joya has danced in various music videos, live concerts, commercials and films. She has studied with and performed works by Joey Dowling, Mandy Moore, Francesca Harper and Savion Glover. Joya has always had a heart for outreach and discipleship through the arts. She was a driving force and leader in building Hillsong NYC Dance Team and she has choreographed and performed various items with Hillsong United and Hillsong Young & Free.

Joya’s extensive training in jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary, jazz funk and many more dance styles have contributed to her versatility and innovation as a performer and choreographer. Currently residing in Loveland, Joya uses her platform to shine light into dark spaces and teach movement as a form of ministry and worship. Joya believes that dance is a world far beyond “just steps” and encourages everyone to find their unique voice and story through their movement.

Instructors

Sarah, Susannah and Joy bring over 30 years of formal dance training to the table. With thousands of hours in the rehearsal studio, performing for regional institutions and national competitions, this dynamic trio can provide a great foundation for recreational and serious dancers alike. Their varied training includes ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, lyrical and worship lyrical.

In addition to their training and expertise, they have several years of experience as dance teachers and choreographers with 4 through 12 year olds.
